About This Retreat
Escape invites book lovers of all backgrounds to connect with others, expand your world views, and reflect on what literature can teach you about yourself. “Reading as medicine” will be layered into our core retreat model, featuring gentle movement such as daily yoga and forest walks, meditation, and a balance of meaningful group discussion and intentional time for curling up with a great book in one of our reserved quiet reading spaces.
For fans of Practical Magic, A Discovery of Witches, and Weyward - our October retreat will explore the representation of witches and witchcraft in literature, unpacking themes of sisterhood, gender equality and our fascination with the magical world.

What to Expect
- In early October, a virtual community will be created to connect retreat-goers with facilitators and each other, as well as vote on retreat details such as book(s) to discuss.
- Day 1: Check in at 3pm, opening circle at 4pm. Sarah Jane Chapman (Be With Your Body yoga, astrology, tarot) leads a discussion about what the stories get right (and wrong) about witches, followed by a guided release ritual to set the tone for weekend. Delicious farm-to-table dinner, followed by a book-club-style discussion around the campfire. The night ends with wind-down yoga and a sleepy tea or mocktail.
- Day 2: Gentle morning yoga at 9:30am, followed by a big brunch at the lodge. Rea Frey (#1 bestselling author and Book Doula) will lead an incredible session on creative writing and publishing your work, followed by a 90 minute restorative break. The afternoon group discussion will explore the deeper meaning behind why we are drawn to the characters we love, and what this can teach us about ourselves. A literary-inspired pop-up fair and flash tattoo station, amazing communal dinner, campfire book trivia with “midnight margaritas” round out the day’s agenda.
- Day 3: Breakfast at the lodge, followed by individual “blind date with a book” reveals. Closing group circle to discuss what was learned, finalize our TBRs, and complete a group guided visualization ritual to send everyone back into the world stronger and more inspired.
- Following the event: Virtual community will have the option to continue and will be added to the broader Founders Circle community, which will offer both virtual and Nashville-based events in the future.
